Proyecto Juan Diego is a 501C3 not-for profit organization established in 2003. Through preliminary family visits in 10 colonias in Brownsville, Texas, Sr. Phylis Peters noticed there were many needs in the area of health and family social issues. She led Proyecto Juan Diego by embarking on a mission to try to better understand the needs of the families living in colonias by first completing a medical survey of 755 houses in Cameron Park, Texas. Once the information was analyzed, it helped create the backdrop for Proyecto Juan Diego's vision and mission to provide education and formation for the community especially in the health and social service areas and personal and family development. Leadership, in theory and practice, is being offered to community individuals interested. Today, Proyecto Juan Diego serves 1,500 families in Cameron Park, Texas.
